Current mainstream commercial lithium-ion batteries generally have an energy density stuck at 250–300 Wh/kg, and struggle to operate stably in extremely cold environments. This has become a core bottleneck restricting the development of new energy vehicles, aerospace, and electronic devices for extreme environments.
To address this critical industry pain point, a joint team from Nankai University and Shanghai Institute of Space Power Sources, after years of research, pioneered fluorine-coordinated electrolyte technology and synthesized a series of new fluorohydrocarbon solvent molecules, completely overturning the traditional lithium-oxygen coordination dissolution mechanism.
