Lithium Carrier Molecule: A Revolutionary Breakthrough for High-Performance Lithium-Ion Batteries

Its synthesis features low cost, simple processes and high stability in the air, with the cost far lower than that of traditional electrolyte additives, accounting for less than 10% of the total battery cost. The molecule is miscible with conventional electrolyte solutions and perfectly compatible with graphite, silicon-carbon anodes and various cathode materials, and its compatibility has been verified on pouch, cylindrical, prismatic and fibrous lithium-ion batteries. Only an electrolyte injection/ replenishment process needs to be added to the existing battery production lines for adaptation, without large-scale transformation of core equipment, resulting in an extremely low industrialization threshold.

The lithium carrier molecule enables needle-type in-situ lithium supplementation, accurately replenishing the lithium ions lost in batteries and achieving non-destructive repair. It decomposes and releases Li⁺ within the 2.8–4.3V charging window, with by-products discharged in gaseous form and no residue left. Verified on real laboratory devices, the cycle life of commercial lithium batteries can be extended from 500–2000 cycles to 12000–60000 cycles, with a capacity retention rate of 96% even after tens of thousands of charge-discharge cycles, significantly prolonging the service life of batteries in terminal products such as consumer electronics, electric vehicles and energy storage power stations. Meanwhile, it reduces the scrappage and recycling pressure of waste batteries, cuts down the consumption and waste of lithium resources, and breaks the traditional design principle that lithium ions must coexist in cathode materials. It provides a new path for the application of green heavy metal-free battery materials and is highly in line with the green and low-carbon development trend.

The relevant technological achievements of the lithium carrier molecule have been published in Nature, the world's top academic journal, and completed laboratory and pilot-scale verification, demonstrating great potential for large-scale commercial application. The R&D team has launched the mass production of trifluoromethanesulfinate lithium, and is conducting in-depth cooperation with world-leading battery enterprises to fully advance the industrialization and product transformation of the technology. In the future, this technology is expected to be widely applied in core fields including consumer electronics, new energy vehicles, energy storage and solar-storage integration.
